The Railway

In the reading Railroad Space and Railroad time by Wolfgang Schivelbusch, the main claim of the article was how space-time is something that is perceived differently through other people’s eyes. Schivelbusch also says, “the world has become one big department store of landscapes and cities” which means to me that the new parts of the world that is being found which is creating things we know into something new and different. Some keywords in this article would be space and time as it is mentioned numerous times throughout this reading. The two words play a part into how travelers would experience other places due to the railroads taking away their space and time. Another key word I found in this reading was “landscapes'' like the past readings because each landscape is joined together by railroads which then brings in more trading posts for people everywhere. It is also said that the railroads have a good and bad side to it because of how it is destroying the space as well as opening new spaces to be available.
